Approach to Teaching

Susanna Satten Yoga is a boutique-style yoga studio specializing in individualized lessons and small group classes. This means that each small group class is limited to five students - a capacity that guarantees personal attention and teacher support.  Susanna Satten Yoga also offers private yoga sessions and duet lessons, individually catered to the needs of each student, from brand-new beginner, to advanced practitioner.

Yoga should be playful, grounding and relaxing.  It will provide both stretching and strengthening for your muscles, and quiet time for your mind.  You will leave feeling better than when you arrived.

Benefits of Yoga

Practicing yoga on a regular basis tones muscles, increases flexibility and body awareness, improves the digestive system, and can promote weight loss. Yoga also enhances lung capacity, reduces stress, increases self-confidence and concentration of the mind, and promotes deep relaxation. Yoga can also be used as a preventive measure for ailments and diseases such as diabetes, thyroid disorders, varicose veins, arthritis, knee and back pain, menstrual disorders, asthma, sinus issues, and migraines among other things.

The individual movements (asanas) are not necessarily rigorous, but can be combined to form either an intense practice or a gentle practice, based upon the individual’s needs, goals and preferences.

Why I Practice Yoga

I begin by INHALING and EXHALING, INHALING and EXHALING.  I come in to practice from a long day or week, distracted and overworked, but once I begin to focus on my breath and center myself, the thoughts circling around in my head and the stress from the outside world begins to melt away.  After that, I begin to move through my practice.  My breath deepens, my muscles loosen, my body strengthens, and I find myself in a state of focused clarity, forgetting all distractions.  I am one with my mat.  Yoga is what I need to keep me grounded, to keep me happy, and to keep me healthy.
